Deadly Explosion at Fireworks Factory in Central China Kills Twenty-One

(MENAFN) According to reports, a major explosion at a fireworks manufacturing facility in central China has killed at least 21 people and left 61 others injured.

The blast occurred on Monday afternoon at a production site operated by a fireworks company in Liuyang, a city under the administration of Changsha in Hunan province. The incident prompted an immediate large-scale emergency response, with hundreds of rescue personnel and specialized equipment deployed to the scene.

Authorities reported that the site was located near storage areas containing combustible materials, raising concerns about the possibility of further explosions. As a safety measure, nearby residents were evacuated and a restricted zone was established around the affected area.

By Tuesday morning, rescue teams had completed an initial search operation confirming the casualties, while injured individuals were transported to medical facilities for treatment. Additional search efforts continued as officials worked to ensure no one remained trapped.

Specialized teams from national emergency authorities were dispatched to assist in both rescue operations and the investigation into the cause of the blast. Police have also detained the company’s responsible manager as part of ongoing inquiries.

Chinese leadership has called for urgent action, including intensified search and rescue efforts, improved medical treatment for victims, and stricter oversight of workplace safety standards. Authorities emphasized the need for accountability and stronger preventive measures to avoid similar disasters in the future.

Overall, the incident has drawn national attention due to its severity and has triggered a broader review of industrial safety practices in the sector.
