Pentagon Prepares for Extended Ground Operations in Iran

(MENAFN) Reports indicate that the Pentagon is gearing up for several weeks of ground operations in Iran, as thousands of U.S. troops and Marines deploy to the Middle East. The buildup could mark a new and potentially hazardous phase of the conflict if U.S. President Donald Trump opts to escalate.

Officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that any ground mission would likely fall short of a full-scale invasion and could instead consist of targeted raids carried out by a combination of Special Operations forces and conventional infantry units.

Such operations would place U.S. personnel at risk from a variety of threats, including Iranian drones and missile attacks, ground fire, and improvised explosive devices. Recent reports suggest that the Trump administration has sent mixed signals, alternately indicating that the conflict is winding down while also hinting at possible escalation.
