US Lawmakers Are Concerned Over Potential Troop Deployment to Iran
After a closed-door session with the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday, Senator Richard Blumenthal warned that the administration appears to be moving toward the potential deployment of ground troops in Iran. “We seem to be on a path toward deploying American troops on the ground in Iran to accomplish any of the potential objectives,” Blumenthal told reporters, adding that he left the briefing “dissatisfied and angry.”
He emphasized that lawmakers are still seeking information on the expected costs, duration, and risks to U.S. personnel. “The American people deserve to know much more than this administration has told them about the cost of the war, the danger to our sons and daughters in uniform and the potential for further escalation and widening of this war,” he said.
Senator Jeanne Shaheen expressed similar worries, noting that the briefings raised more questions than they answered.
While the White House has not ruled out the possibility of sending troops to Iran, officials have denied plans for a large-scale ground operation. Trump has stated that ground forces could be considered only “for a very good reason.”
