Kenya’s President Condemns Violent Protests
While speaking at the Kilimani Police Station in Nairobi during an evaluation of a housing initiative for law enforcement personnel, Ruto alleged that opposition forces were attempting to destabilize the administration through unlawful means and civil disorder.
He cautioned that aggressive actions, including assaults on police posts, would be regarded as acts of war.
Ruto emphasized the country’s commitment to democratic governance, stating: “I want to tell those characters giving us lectures that they can change this administration using violence and unlawful means before 2027; let them try.”
He went on to declare, “This is a democratic nation, and Kenyans will choose the nation's leadership through the ballot. We cannot choose leadership through violence. That is not going to happen in this country.”
These comments arrive as anti-government demonstrations intensify across the nation.
The protests have been largely fueled by dissatisfaction with police violence, worsening economic conditions, and mounting demands for Ruto's resignation.
The unrest has escalated, with protesters invading police stations and engaging in confrontations with security personnel.
Numerous online videos have emerged, showing scenes of chaos and public disorder.
Visibly upset, Ruto claimed that several demonstrators were being financed by rival political factions.
He pledged to act decisively against those responsible.
“Those who were found looting people's businesses will be dealt with by the law, and they will all be arrested, and we are going for those sponsoring them,” he asserted.
